The Olympics…the whole world is tuned in to watch these games. For a brief time, we all have a common goal and can come together in peace. We are united by our desire to be champions. Every athlete strives to be the greatest in their sport. Some will achieve success, some will admit defeat, but all will bring great pride to their nation.
So what can we learn from these games, while we watch with baited breath for our country to take home the gold? What do all these athletes have in common? Perseverance; in the face of adversity, when the odds are stacked against them, when they fail but get back up. We all have the ability to bring out the best within ourselves every day.
Of course we are not all athletes and every day is not going to be the biggest day of your life, however you can try and conquer one day at a time. Do the athletes competing become champions in one day? It takes them years of practice and sacrifice to unleash their potential. You are no different, and we all know Rome wasn’t built in a day. Try to be just a little better than the day before.
What are your goals? What do you want to work on? For example, do you want to learn a new language but don’t think you have the time? Start small, day by day and see how far you have come in a one year. Try learning just one word a day, just one word. By the time a year has gone by you will have learned 365 new words you did not know before. (This is one of many goals I am implementing in my life right now.)
So enjoy the games, root on your athletes and use them as motivation to pursue your own dreams and goals, no matter how big or small.
